The Marfa Lights

The Marfa Lights have been glowing over a stretch of West Texas desert since at least 1883, decades before anyone in Marfa, Texas had ever seen a car. Witnesses describe basketball-sized orbs that bounce, split, merge, and vanish over Mitchell Flat, and while modern science has explained away most of what today's tourists see, one long-term study found that roughly three percent of sightings still can't be identified. Was a teenage cowhand fooled by a trick of the desert air a quarter century before headlights existed, or did he see something that still doesn't have a name?
