The Green Children of Woolpit

The Green Children of Woolpit is one of medieval England's strangest documented mysteries. In the 12th century, in the Suffolk village of Woolpit, two children with vivid green skin climbed out of an old wolf pit speaking a language no one could identify, and neither historians nor scientists have ever fully explained where they came from. One child died within months. The other learned English and described a homeland bathed in permanent twilight, a place she called Saint Martin's Land, and then spent the rest of her life never quite belonging to the one she was stuck in.
